Jomsom is one of the best place to do trekking. One can find diverse landscapes and cultures along the trekking routes. The main attractions of this trekking is the gorge carved by the Kali Gandaki river, which originates in the Tibetan plateau to eventually flow into the Ganges in India.
Muktinath which is very close to Jomsom is the famous pilgrimage site for the Buddhists and Hindus. To Hindus, Muktinath is a sacred place of salvation. It is believed that bathing in the waters here guarantees salvation after death. Similarly, to Buddhists Muktinath is a place where the great sage guru Ringpoche ( Padmasambhava) came to meditate. It takes 3- 4 hrs to reach Muktinath from Jomsom.The fossilized ammonites, known as Shaligram is found in the bank of Gali Gandaki. This region is inhabited by Gurungs and Magars in the lower regions of Kali Gandaki. Thakalis live around Jomsom and the people with obvious Tibetan roots, the Lopa live around Muktinath and up to Mustang. This is the best trek to observe the diversity among the people and their customs. The upper part of this region is dominated by the Tibetan Buddhism and lower part is dominated by the Hinduism.
Most parts of the Jomsom Trek lies in the Annapurna circuits and Annapurana foothills treks. The usual starting point of the Jomsom trek is Naya Pul. Jomsom is also popular for its airports. There are daily flight from Pokhara. There are abundant accommodation facilities including some high class resort in Jomsom.
Kagbeni which lies further 2 hrs from Jomsom is another beautiful place. Kagbeni is not commercialized as Jomsom and it much more quite and peace.
