If you have less time and want to get excitement of the Himalayas, trekking to Langtang would be the appropriate option. Langtang region is one of the most accessible trekking region from Kathmandu.
It has over 70 glaciers of varying sizes. Ganesh Himal mountain ranges, the Langtang and the high altitudes lakes including Gosainkunda, Parvatikuna, Bhiravkunda and Dudhkuna.
Mostly the people in this region are Tamang and Tibetan origin. The beautifully carved wooden porches, traditionally-built stone houses, dress and craftsmanship reflect their rich Himalayan heritage. Langtang is located about 30 km the north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border. Langtang Lirung (7,245m) is the highest peak in this area.
The main livestock’s of this region are sheep and Yak. The day to day activities of the villagers ranges from raising livestock, agriculture and trade with Kerung in Tibet. Their main staple food includes Wheat, Maize, Potato, Soyabean and millet.
Tourists standard T houses are available throughout the trekking route in Langtang and Gosainkunda. Further, trained guides and porters are also available in the villages .
In April 2015, The Langtang region is badly affected by the earthquake. The reconstruction and renovation of the T houses and trails is finished and this area is opened for the tourists.
