The Rara National park is established in 1976 which is also the Nepal’s smallest and most beautiful National park. Rara national park lies at an altitude of about 3000 meters and it is protected by the most beautiful alpine and sub-alpine ecosystem of the Himalayas. The main attractions of the Rara national park is lake Rara. The lake is 167 meters deep in some places and drains into the rivers Mugu Karnali via Nijar Khola. It is surrounded by rich forest hills and snow capped peaks around it. The best viewpoint of Lake Rara is Chuchemara Hill at 4,087 m There are 500 different kinds of flowers, 214 species of birds and 20 different species of mammals. Snow trout fish also can be found in the lake.
The Rara national park is rich in vegetation and home to the endangered red panda, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Leopard, Jackal, himalayan tahr, yellow-throated martin, wild dog, wild boar, common langur, rhesus macaque and common otter. During the certain seasons migrant water fowls and gallinaceous birds also can be seen.
The most convenient way to reach Rara is to take flight from Nepalgunj to Jumla. From Jumla it takes 2-3 days. You can also starts this refreshing trek in hilly village of Jumla. The best time to visit Rara lake is autumn, spring and summer. Because of popular tourists destination, tourists services and infrastructures have developed over’s years. It is also considered to be the one of the popular pilgrimage site of Nepalis.
